MEUG

Director Duchattelet has everything sorted. A thriving business, a comfortable life, a marriage of convenience. Until one evening at the theatre turns everything on its head. When he sees Mrs Dumas shine in the role of Hamlet, he is unexpectedly moved. Curiosity grows into longing. He wants to get closer to her and enrols in English lessons… with her.

What follows is a clash between two worlds: that of a down-to-earth businessman and that of a free-spirited, artistic woman with her eccentric entourage. Meanwhile, everyone around them is also searching for their place in the world, often awkwardly, sometimes painfully, but always recognisably so.

With MEUG, SKaGeN presents a sparkling and razor-sharp production about taste, class and prejudice. Light-hearted, witty and moving all at once. An intimate interplay of desires and misunderstandings that subtly shifts your perspective on yourself and on others.

Together with De Studio and Comp. Marius, SKaGeN is spearheading a new city festival: TIS – Theatre in the City. Six performances a day, from 10 to 14 August, at one of Antwerp’s most beautiful spots (and best-kept secrets): the green roof terrace of The Antwerp Management School, right next to De Studio and right in the heart of the city.

And for that first, exciting edition, we’re bringing a brand-new show with us!

This summer we’re rehearsing MEUG. If you look carefully, you can spot us rehearsing on the sea wall during Theater Aan Zee in Ostend! What takes shape by the sea will then move to Antwerp for a relaxed first run of performances: Clara Cleymans, Evelien Bosmans, Mathijs F Scheepers, Dagmar Dierick, Tristan Feyten and Korneel Hamers will perform MEUG, with a view of the Antwerp skyline.
